Managing Your Files, Saving, & EM Share

SAVING FILES/SYNCING

Students will be logging onto our network in order to back up their work. Students will have their own user account and folder on the network with ample space to back up any school-related work. The laptops will be set up with a Documents folder in which students should save their work. Students are responsible for syncing their computer to the server in order to back up their files. When a student adds a document to the Document folder (located in the Finder/Hard Drive) while working at home or away from school, that document will be copied automatically to the school server only after the student logs onto the network at school or tells their computer to Sync Home Now at school. Likewise, if a student needs to work on a file at home that is located in his or her Documents folder, the syncing process should happen. Students should get in the habit of syncing their files to the server at least once a day.

Additional folders in the Documents folder may be created or added by the student. All student work should be stored in one of the Documents folders. Only files stored in the Documents folder will be backed up and saved. Student work saved to a different location on the computer will not be saved to the high school server.

Large video or music files may not be stored in the Documents folder. Saving Data to Removable Storage Devices

ADDITIONAL BACKUP

It is strongly recommended that students should be in the habit of backing up their work at least once each week using removable file storage.  A removable flash drive or portable hard drive may be purchased to backup all student files stored on their machine.  It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that work is not lost due to mechanical failure or accidental deletion. Computer malfunctions are not an acceptable excuse for not submitting work.

EM SHARE

After students log  into their laptop at school a Network Folder called EM SHARE will launch.  This folder will allow students to electronically submit some of their coursework to their teacher’s folder.
